ENTRY FEES:
Register by June 27, 2026 FOR COMPLETE ACCESS OF COMPETITION (All competition segments, Friday-Sunday) for Participants and Directors ONLY - ONLY two (1) DIRECTOR & (2) CHAPARONES PER GROUP ARE ALLOWED BACK STAGE.
Each group will have a total max of 36 entries to enter for their group if they choose to.
CLAUSE EXCEPTION TO SOLO & DUETS ONLY: Example-If your group only has 2 solo entries, those 4 left over solo entries can be used to enter 4 extra Duets and vice-versa.
WAIVER RELEASE FORMS: To all participants, a signature is required for each participant. Forms must be submitted with the registration or hand delivered at group check-in.
COMPETITION GUIDELINES: All decisions are based solely on the Judge’s discretion; the WTS of Directors, Sponsors, and Volunteers are not involved in the Judging decision process. Judges' scores are based on their knowledge of Traditional folklorico dance from Mexico.
ELIGIBILITY: Competition is open to private, non-profit, High Schools, Middle schools and Elementary schools of all ages, levels and divisions. Everyone competes together in accordance to their level that is entered by their director. School groups are not separated from competing with private or non-profit groups.
COMPETITION DIVISIONS AND LEVELS: Division I (advance) Division II (Intermediate) Division III (Beginner) Division IV (Mascot- for participants 6yrs and younger)
JUDGING CRITERIA:
Mascot Competition: is for 6 years and younger.
Children’s & Youth Competition: is for 14 years and younger. Only exception is documented disability of the dancer.
Young Adult & Adult Competition: is for 15 years and older.
SOLO & DUETS: All Solo & Duets pieces are allotted a minimum of 1 minute to a maximum of 3 minutes. Performers will be judged 1 10 points on Technique & Form, Choreography, Costume and Authenticity. Entries will be placed in their divisions that the director entered in the registration form.
TRIOS & ENDEMBLES: All Solo & Duets pieces are allotted a minimum of 1 minute to a maximum of 4 minutes. Performers will be judged 1 10 points on Technique & Form, Choreography, Costume and Authenticity.Entries will be placed in their divisions that the director entered in the registration form.
MASCOT COMPETITION CUADROS: is for 6 years and younger. Same rules apply, as they do for adults and children guidelines with the exception of allotted a minimum of 5 minutes to a maximum of 10 minutes from start to finish.
CHILDREN’S COMPETITION CUADROS: Children’s Competition is for participants 14 years and younger. Exceptions can be made by documented accommodations by the group Director. Competition is allotted a minimum of 5 minutes to a maximum of 15 minutes from start to finish. Children’s groups will be placed in divisions that you entered in your registration form.
ADULT COMPETITION CUADROS: Adult competition is for participants 15 years and older. Exceptions can be made by documented accommodations by the group Director. Competition is allotted a minimum of 5 minutes to a maximum of 15 minutes from start to finish. Adult groups will be placed in their divisions that your director entered in your registration form.
JUDGING CRITERIA & AWARDS: Other awards for superior dance to individuals or companies may be awarded by the Judges. Judges will rate each award below for each of the following Awards. Awards are 1 2 & 3 place for each group awards based in respective divisions.
Best Choreography: based on synchronization of lines, circles, etc. and stage presentation including entrances & exits.
Best Technique & Form: based on synchronization of steps, skirt, hat, all props necessary for the region and the character used for the region.
Best Costume: based on how the costume is presented including hats and hairpieces and authenticity of region presented.
Best Traditional: based on authentic dress, steps, and choreography in their presentation ad in accordance with traditional dance.
Best Contemporary/Fusion:
Contemporary- based on the stylized nature while keeping some folklórico aspects to the piece. Based on strong legwork of either Ballet with elements of Modern dance combined with traditional Mexican technique.
Fusion-Fusion folklorico dance is a combination of folklorico dance and another dance style, such as ballet or salsa, jazz, hip-hop, and traditional folk dances. Fusion dance is a contemporary style that combines different dance styles to create a new aesthetic.
Best Children’s Overall: based off of group performance in the respective divisions.
Best Adult Overall: based off of group performance in the respective divisions.
Brillantes del Folklorico: One (1) Male & One (1) Female dancer from each Folklorico Company, for each cuadro presented only, regardless of age.
“Soul of Mexico” Award: (Judges choice award)This award is hand selected by the judges, and it does not consider scores. It is awarded to an entry that embodies the essence of the traditions and customs of Mexico.
Best Traditional Director Award: (Judges choice award)This award is hand selected by the judges, and it does not consider scores.
Best Contemporary Director Award: (Judges choice award)This award is hand selected by the judges, and it does not consider scores.
Best Fusion Director Award: (Judges choice award)This award is hand selected by the judges, and it does not consider scores.
Best Overall Male Dancer Award: (Judges choice award) This award is hand selected by the judges from either the Children's Competition or Adult Competition.
Best Overall Female Dancer Award: (Judges choice award) This award is hand selected by the judges from either the Children's Competition or Adult Competition
Best of West Texas : One (1) group will be selected Best of Festival from either the Children's Competition or Adult Competition. The winner of “Best of West Texas” will be invited to come back the following year.
The judge’s decisions are final.
IMPORTANT TIMELINES
To provide the best possible experience for all groups and participants, please note the following:
Timeline:
June 13th - Registration Deadline
June 30th – Deadline to submit, Group Photo, Logo & Group Biography
July 3rd – 1st draft of the schedule will be sent out
July 10th – Deadline to communicate any schedule conflicts.
July18th– Final schedule will be sent out. No changes will be made after this time. This means the following:
❖ No refunds for entry or participant cancellations. Your paperwork will be considered final on July 3rd.
❖ Schedule changes will not be made after July 10th.
Communication:
While we will do our best to accommodate special scheduling needs, we are not always able to accommodate every request. For special circumstances, please communicate this information on your entry forms so that we can make every effort to accommodate your needs.
T-shirts:
Please send your T-shirt sizes at the time of registration. If t-shirts sizes are submitted late, we cannot guarantee your t-shirts. Additional commemorative T-shirts should be ordered in advance and mailed in with your registration forms.
Maximum Capacity:
Registration packets will be assigned a number based on the order that they are received. While we do not anticipate this to be an issue, if we reach capacity, we will operate on a first come, first served basis.
Dressing Rooms and Performance Areas:
❖ No food, drink or gum will be permitted in performance areas or dressing rooms.
❖ These areas are limited to dancers and instructors/directors only. Space will be extremely limited.
❖ For younger dancers, an adult is expected to always accompany the group.
❖ Please pick up after yourself and keep all areas clean.
❖ Upon entering, door monitors may request to check bags. Please prepare for this.
General Facility Etiquette:
❖ No food, drink or gum will be permitted in performance areas or dressing rooms.
• Note: The cafeteria is considered a performance area.
❖ Please do not allow your students to dance in hallways with shoes on.
❖ Please throw away your trash. (This includes outside the facility.)
❖ Please do not park illegally (you will be ticketed or towed)
❖ Groups will be held responsible for any damage incurred while on the premises.
❖ No alcohol, drugs, smoking on the school grounds.
❖ Audience members may enter and exit performance locations between entries. There will be no exceptions to this.
❖ Should you need to address a problem, please escalate your concern to an adult staff member.
❖ Under no circumstances should parents or directors yell at/escalate concerns with student volunteers.
Video Cameras:
For those that purchase a Press Pass, you may video your entries; however, electrical outlets will not be available. Please do not place cameras in front or near judges.
Waiver Release Forms:
The release form(s) must be submitted for each contestant with the registration forms and fees. No dancer will be allowed to perform without a signed form on file.
Disqualification: Failure to follow the rules and regulations outlined in this packet can lead to disqualification and/or removal from the premises.

At Ballet Folklorico De Alvaro Munoz Academy Dance Group, our mission is to inspire and empower people through dance. We offer a variety of classes for all levels, from beginner to advanced.
Beginner's Class: Saturday & Sunday 8:30AM-10AM
Intermediate/Advance Class: Saturday 10AM-8:30PM
Intermediate/Advance Class: 8:30AM-4PM
Our classes are taught by experienced and passionate instructors who will help you improve your skills and achieve your goals.

The Award-Winning Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz (formally known as St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Ballet Folklorico), Abilene's first Mexican and original Ballet folklorico was founded by Martha Munoz and Co-founded by Crispina Monrrial in 1963 at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church. In 1982, with the help of the Abilene Cultural Affairs Council, the group was formally introduced to the city of Abilene. Celebrating its 62nd Year Anniversary, the St. Vincent Ballet Folklorico dancers have become a vital part of the Abilene community.
As of January 21, 2023 and with the support of the St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church the ballet folklorico branched out on its own and is now a Non-Profit Organization as May 2, 2024, for the expansion of community wide growth and is now officially El BALLET FOLKLORICO DE ALVARO MUNOZ ACADEMY. The Ballet Folklorico has 40 members and is led by one of the former dancers of the St. Vincent's Ballet Folklorico; with 45 years of ballet Folklorico dance experience and is the nephew of the founder, Artistic Dance Director & Choreographer Alvaro Munoz.
In addition, the Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy has partnered with the prestigious Abilene Ballet Theatre during their Spring Showcase at the Paramount theatre during the month of March.
Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy has built a relationship and partnered with the Historic Paramount Theatre, home of Abilene's own and prestigious Abilene Ballet Theatre productions and the Award-Winning Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy yearly dance productions.
As of January 1, 2023, Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy is supported and has built a strong relationship with Elisa A. Fulks, General Administrative Director and Coordinator of the Ballet de Mexico USA de Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernandez to promote and support the Abilene community as a cultural exchange between Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy and Ballet de Mexico USA de Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernandez.
By joining forces with Ballet de Mexico USA, Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy aims to uplift the lives of children, young adults and adults by fostering the most magnificent forms of artistic expression. Specifically, we seek to promote the enriching disciplines of Classical Ballet, Folkloric dance and music.
Ballet Folklorico de Alvaro Munoz Academy takes great pride in serving as a prominent sponsor of the Ballet de Mexico USA summer Masterclass that took place June 2023.
